Welcome
The Thai chapter was formed in 1998 as the catalyst to focus the enormous CAS potential already existing
within Thai academia and industry. This is truly a pioneering endeavour by the Thais with numerous workshops
and short-courses offered in state-of-the-art areas, training offered by international experts, new concepts
such as student design contests continuously being developed. The energy and enthusiasm given by the
chapter members is admirable and it is excellent to see so much good collaboration between key academic
institutions in Thailand. The chapter started in 1998 with only 21 members. The Chapter now has more than 120 members.
In less than two years membership has more than quadrupled and the Thai CAS Chapter has become the key
vehicle to expose and enhance the rapidly developing electronics industry of Thailand. The activities being
organised are most impressive with education and training in the state-of-the-art devices high up on the
Chapter’s agenda. The membership is young and dynamic and as can be seen from the following impressive list
of activities both local and international. CAS exposure, particularly in the much developing areas of the Far
East, is very high on the Thai chapter Agenda.

IEEE Circuits and Systems Workshop on
“Engineering as Science”
3-5 April 2006
Mahanakorn University of Technology, VANIT BUILDING CAMPUS
9th Floor, New Petchaburi Road, Bangkok
The beginning of the 21st century has marked the dawn of the new ‘molecular economy’,
where information technology and biology will be merged. We have already witnessed the spawn
of many new exciting technologies like bioelectronics, bioinformatics, nanoelectronics, plastic electronics,
and ubiquitous computing. For us, electronic and electrical engineers, electronic circuits and systems
will be at the heart of this new wave of innovation. Therefore, we must be ready to adapt to this
technological convergence and change. Will we have to learn more of life science and biology?
Should students still study EE? ‘Engineering as Science’ is therefore proposed as the theme of this
international workshop, which provide us a forum to learn and comtemplate about posiible future
directions in circuits and systems. This workshop is co-organised by IEEE circuits and systems society
and Mahanakorn University of Technology. The event will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from April 3rd
to April 5th, 2006. The workshop includes 8 inspiring lecture sessions given by distinguished researchers
and professors and a forum discussion on the workshop theme.
PRE-REGISTRATION is required.
The workshop is co-sponsored and organized by Mahanakorn University of Technology and IEEE CAS Society.
Attending the workshop is FREE but the lecture material book will be charged at cost.
The book will be prepared those pre-registered participants only.
